Samantha Langstein: Piano
At the age of 3, Samantha Langstein began piano lessons in her hometown of Virginia Beach, VA. Throughout her seven years of study under the Canadian pianist Glenda Palmer, Samantha learned how to read music, articulate rhythms, sight sing, and perform classical pieces in front of an audience. Under Glenda’s direction, Samantha earned third place in the Trinity College London Arts Festival for her performance of William Alwyn’s “The Sea is Angry.”
Samantha earned a Bachelor’s degree from Berklee College of Music and spent three semesters at Berklee’s campus in Valencia, Spain. While in Spain, she performed at notable venues such as Bogui Jazz Club, Jimmy Glass Jazz Club, and Café Mercedes.
After graduating from Berklee in 2014, Samantha moved to New York and worked as a dance accompanist at Ballet Hispanico, Dance Adventure of Greenwich, and Peridance. In 2015, Samantha was accepted to the graduate program at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music for jazz piano, where she completed a Master’s degree in 2017. At Manhattan School of Music, she had the great fortune to study with jazz masters Phil Markowitz, Garry Dial, Dave Liebman, Mark Soskin, Jay Anderson, Jeremy Manasia, and Chris Rosenberg. Throughout the program, she taught at New York City public schools.
Samantha enjoys teaching piano to students of all ages and levels, and adheres to Dorothy DeLay’s philosophy of “Teach the student, not the subject.” In addition to teaching, Samantha is an active performer in New York.
